More about the photos
My personal photography projects are a direct reflection of my experience as a woman born and raised in Brazil.
After living in the UK for nine years, it has become even more apparent how deeply I have been shaped by inequalities related to gender, race and class in Brazil, a country marked by profound social inequalities.
Deeply committed to photographing underrepresented subjects, including mental health, gender, race and cultural diversity, I approach portraiture with a documentary eye, but I am by no means bound by a strict documentary approach. Quite the opposite: when exploring socially engaged and sensitive subjects, I deliberately use colour, body language and allegory to convey a complex range of emotions.
From determination, freedom and individuality to isolation, fear and abandonment, my photographs seek to open a conversation about the experiences and emotions of navigating the world as a member of an underrepresented group, whether shaped by gender, sexual orientation, mental health, culture or race.
Lately, I've been enjoying exploring the relationship between humans and nature, especially plants, through my portraiture work.
