The Emotional Landscape of Political Radicalisation
The photographs below are part of an essay titled Flagged, in which I drew inspiration from Brazilian culture — Carnival characters, football supporters and the visual language of the many street protests — to portray the widespread radicalisation of political life, which is, sadly, a very contemporary excess.
The series seeks to recreate a range of intense, unsettling emotions — from fear to anger, from bravado to despair — all of which have become increasingly visible within Brazil’s deeply divisive political landscape.
Digital communication, the spread of fake news, and the rise of nationalism and far-right politics have all contributed to an increasingly inflammatory climate shaped by “us versus them” narratives. Through these photographs, I wanted to reflect on the emotional cost of living within such a reality-bending political environment.
I'm available for commissions and collaborations. Just drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you!
